SSC Laser is excited to announce their latest investment! This investment comes in the form of cutting-edge software that will streamline the CAD and press braking process. Allow us to introduce you to our industry leading CAD software, Production Designer and BendCAM. Following a recent four-month trial of the software, in July 2017 SSC purchased both the Production Designer and the BendCAM for the Hixon HQ and manufacturing facility. One Engineer received a four-day training course by the software creators, Amada and received their license to use the Production Designer and BendCAM.

The Bristol and Derby CAD and Press Braking teams have also attended training at Amada for both of the products earlier this month ahead of the implementation of the software at SSC’s East Midlands and South West manufacturing facilities in September 2017. How does the software work? The Production Designer software is utilised during the initial programing process whereby the CAD Engineer imports a 2D drawing or a 3D model (STP, IGS).

Production Designer will enable us to create accurate bending programs through the use of the correct radius and vee, which SSC then export as a 3D model from the 2D drawing to upload to the BendCAM (VPSS 3I) software. This then creates a bending program through running an auto or manual sequence from our tool library. The sequence is then sent down to the press brake engineers at our manufacturing facility, who then upload the program and produce the finished product.

What are the benefits? Both programmes work simultaneously to reduce production time with their easy-to-navigate user interface and an array of automated functions to reduce manual activities. The new software streamlines the Press Brake operation process with a simple and easy-to-use 3D simulation of the bend sequence and tooling set up. Production Designer also supports most major CAD file formats, meaning less time is spent liaising between clients as the majority of files are accepted first time. The amount of time saved varies as no two projects are the same, however with the use of the new software, production time can be reduced by up to 50%. An example of how time effective the use of the Production Designer and the BendCAM are, is a recent reverse engineering project of an automobile bumper. CAD Engineer, Craig Jones said “Without the help of the new software, the project would have easily taken a full day, however with the use of Production Designer and BendCAM it only took myself and the team three hours.” We’re super impressed with our new software so far, and we’d love the opportunity to really put the software to the test.
