Your article is amazing and packed full of good, rich information, hate to see other visitors step in his crap. I agree that in the past, they had an issue with their marketing team doing things that ruined their name a little. But before I ‘recommended’ them I actually had a full meeting with their team, and President and discussed a great many things about their company. I liked the fact that they were using real data to help make decisions and appreciated their honesty about the mistakes made in the past. I also had a lawyer go through and check all of their terms and conditions, check their background,etc (yeah, I’m pretty thorough) and the lawyer gave them the low risk, good compliance green light.

I did research on those who’ve used them and seen success, and checked all of their “as mentioned on” so as to make sure they weren’t lying but were actually featured. All came back good to go. Granted there are a couple of articles out there that refer to the previous issues (many of which aren’t personal experience but refer to other people’s articles) but they are right in their claim. Finally, the last thing I liked and gave me the warm and fuzzies is that I gave them a list of things I wanted to see them do differently and they immediately got to work on it. I had a lot of things to say about their landing page being a little misleading – wasn’t their intention but they saw where I was coming from once I brought it up.

But the place is a scam. They don’t get anyone a publishing deal. This “publishing deal” amounts to them self-publishing your book for you on Amazon. Then they shop it around to agents.

Then they take some of the money, *if* you get any. You basically wind up paying these people for stuff you can do yourself. Did you even read the link I put there? Of course you didn’t. Hopefully, other people will see this and see the light.

Why should I give them my book so they can give it to agents, and then I have to pay them part of my royalties for that? You can give me a long, rambling explanation, but the fact is, you are wrong. And given all the otherwise valid information on this site, it’s sad that you’re promoting a scam that rips off and hurts indie authors rather than actually promoting us. I get how hard it is to put up a specific content upgrade for specific bunch of posts.

I just left a comment there thanking him for confirming my suspicions. The Inkitt website barely has readers there anymore. It’s just a bunch of writers fighting each other to be heard, that’s what it amounts to.

People spend all their time fighting to get people — mostly other writers — to read and review their stuff on Inkitt and only Inkitt, which is utterly pointless. It’s not like reviews on Inkitt have an effect on Amazon sales, and KDP prohibits your books from being published there anyway. Even if Inkitt wasn’t a scam, the website still has little value for an indie author who publishes on Kindle. I didn’t post anything about Inkitt because I have a grudge against them (I don’t) or because I’m angry my book didn’t do well with them.

I wasn’t there that long. I left when I had enough sense to realize the “publishing deal” was a scam.

I don’t have anything against Dave. And — once again — I wasn’t at Inkitt long enough to hate them.

I posted my comment to warn other writers, to help them avoid falling into a trap that other writers have fallen into. Thankfully, I got out before I could get sucked in and I’m trying to help others. That’s basically it. Just thought I’d share.

I’ve used Awesome gang and you might as well set fire to $10, but then it is only $10. More annoying was Indie Author News. This sites paid advertising is in the region of $100. I used this and I was soooo excited. It could be the boost I needed.

Normal sales were around 6-10 a day and that’s with me pushing it daily via FB, website, and using Amazon advertising. So I did nothing on the Indie Author News day and sat back. I dropped from position 25 to 39 in my category, not a hit on a FB page, nothing at all on my websites, no sales. A big flat zero. I wish I’d kept the cash and put it towards a couple of days off work when I could have generated more leads myself using some of Dave’s great tips.
