I Don’t Regret Joining the NDC –Jewel Ackah Sep 04, 2015, Comments Off on I Don’t Regret Joining the NDC –Jewel Ackah Ace Ghanaian highlife artiste and NDC party anthem composer Jewel Ackah, has publicly made it known that he has never regretted doing the NDC anthem ‘Arise Arise’ and even joining the party ever since the President called on him with the offer since 1997. Speaking in an interview with Jewel on the AM Pluzz morning show on Pluzz 89.9 FM with Sammy Flex, the artiste said the then president Jerry John Rawlings called on him one morning that he wanted him to compose a party song for him because all the other artistes he called on refused. “I met the President because I knew him way back from Takoradi, then I agreed to do the song which I didn’t charge because I was afraid so I only told him I need a studio. They gave me the lyrics which I did some changes in and did the entire composition and since then I became part of the National Democratic Congress and I later did other party song,” he revealed. Jewel also stated that, after the song he thought the party would appreciate with some amount but they didn’t, he thought they will even call and get him something, so it was from then he knew that the NDC does not give money; you have to work for it. “It took almost about two terms and nothing came so after that, I refused to do any song for them but was talked to and I said okay, so when President John Mahama came, things were better. I was given a job to do and a whole lot of things.

I became committed, everywhere they went, they would call me and all my friends begun to talk that I went to join the NDC but I didn’t mind them,” he said. He again advised the youth in the arts industry that, they have to look at the party before doing a song for them. He said it`s not advisable because when he started his popularity just run down and people were not buying his songs.
